Gov. Seyi Makinde : A leader who is consistent with the way he treats his people (2)
By Bode Durojaiye.

True leaders like His Excellency, Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde of Oyo State know who they are and what they stand for.
They know their values and the rules they will abide by, regardless of the circumstances they face. They allow their people to understand the values they are committed to uphold, which lays a foundation for the rules their people will be expected to adhere to.
True leaders both know and communicate their values openly with the people they lead, creating an atmosphere of certainty and trust.
Hence, the house to house campaign at Jobele and the unprecedented walk in the ancient town of Oyo, both in the Oyo Federal Constituency embarked upon recently by His Excellency.
These tow events clearly showed that Governor Makinde is a leader that has integrity. Integrity is the very core of his influence.
Living the values he professes to believe is what is giving Gov. Makinde the credibility more than any other contestants for the number one seat in Oyo State, and allows the good people of the State to place their trust in him.
As a conscientious leader, he is able able to say “do as I do” rather than just “do as I say”, because he leads by example.
The Governor is able to work right alongside the people he leads in order to get to know and care about the people he is leading.
The mammoth crowd comprising of cross section of people of Oyo Federal Constituency that joyfully and eagerly turned out to receive their God sent Governor was so unprecedented that the people , including the commercial motorcycle operators were so happy as they shook hands and took photographs with His Excellency.

Unlike other rallies where the people of other towns were invited to join, the people of Oyo listened with rapt attention and without being condescending to what their Governor has in stock for them come 2023.
They were willing to hear what Governor Makinde have to say without rushing to judgement.
While the Governor too was patient as usual and genuine in his desire to understand the thoughts and feelings of the people he is leading .
Gov. Makinde is forthright with his people. He communicates openly and often. He takes the time to communicate often to the people in order to show that they are valued and important to him.
His Excellency understands that as the leader he has an obligation to communicate directly with his people so he will never allow a void that someone with mal-intent can fill.

Gov. Makinde reprimands the people from a place of love and a genuine desire to help them improve. He reprimands without anger, and he relay feedback in a direct, yet kind and respectful way.
Even when Makinde sees a bad behavior needing to be corrected, be does not view the person doing the behavior as a bad person.
Rather, he listens and attempts to understand what led to that person making the mistake or exhibiting the bad behavior in order to understand the underlying cause that needs correcting.
His Excellency understands that when a person feels valued and cared for by their leader, they will be far more willing to take the feedback and implement the needed changes.
He understands that no value comes from the use of sarcasm, beating around the bush, or sugar coating things that need to be communicated.
The amiable Governor understands that using those things breaks people’s trust and leaves them feeling uncertain or belittled, which ultimately lead to harboring bad feelings toward their leader, none of which inspire a desire to change or improve their own behavior.
Also, Gov. Makinde does not control the people, he inspires them to do great things.
He gives people the values and rules, which set the boundaries to operate within. Then he encourages people to go out and make choices on their own.
