In a significant move, the Oyo State Government has reopened 23 schools previously shut down due to land disputes, marking a transformative step for education in the region. Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal, alongside the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abdulwaheed Adelabu Salihu, visited Aguọ Ministry Control Basic School and Ajagba Ministry Control Basic School. During the visit, they presented educational materials and assured the people of the government’s full support in sustaining the schools.
The Deputy Governor emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace, stating that no form of violence or disruption would be tolerated, regardless of the person’s standing. He reassured the community that peace would remain a top priority as the government continued its support for these reopened institutions.
Prof. Salihu commended Rev. Dr. Kolade Oladele and his organization, GLODET Mission, whose efforts were pivotal in reopening the schools. GLODET Mission’s extensive commitment included:
– Initiating agitations and collaborating with the Oyo Global Forum (OGF) to advocate for reopening.
– Launching a direct intervention campaign in Aguọ’s community, where they established a free school with appointed teachers.
– Providing all necessary instructional materials, including free uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks for the students.
– Committing over 5 million naira to Aguọ’s free school project.
– Continuously monitoring and supporting the reopened schools and teachers with essentials like chalk, exercise books, furniture, and other resources.
These interventions by GLODET Mission, led by Rev. Dr. Oladele, were described as true services to humanity, not influenced by political motives.
This reopening marks a promising step toward restoring education and stability to communities impacted by the prolonged school closures, as the Oyo State Government and GLODET Mission work hand-in-hand to ensure a brighter future for students.
