The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, has urged graduands of the Baptist College of Theology, Oyo, to carry the values of theological excellence, doctrinal and ministerial faithfulness wherever they go, and to let their lives be salt and light, so that Oyo and Nigeria as a whole can be proud of the fruits borne from this sacred institution.
Speaking today at the 47th graduation ceremony of the Baptist College of Theology, Oyo, Oba Owoade emphasized the institution’s critical role at a time when the world is searching for moral clarity, spiritual integrity, and compassionate leadership.
“Baptist College of Theology is not only equipping men and women spiritually and academically, it is also raising torchbearers for the nation and the global church,” he said. “Dear graduands, you are leaving this place not just with knowledge, but with a mandate to serve, lead, and shine. Whether you stand behind a pulpit or sit in a counseling room, let your life preach louder than your words.”

The Alaafin, who expressed appreciation to the Baptist Convention President and other Baptist leaders in the Oyo Baptist Conference for visiting him during his seclusion, reiterated the profound impact of Baptist work in Nigeria. He stated, “I have been a beneficiary of the Baptist work through formal education at Baptist High School, Saki. Providentially, my coronation took place at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo. Moving around Oyo town, you will see Baptist churches scattered all over, bringing spiritual and socio-economic growth to the town.”
Oba Owoade added, “That is why the Alaafin, as an institution and a person, will continue to accord respect and honor to the Baptist work and institution in Nigeria, Oyo State, and Oyo town in particular.”
The highlight of the historic event was the conferment of the Royal Father Award on the Alaafin for his contributions to the Baptist College of Theology from its inception to the present day.
