Political Royal Sisters Secure Grand Patronage from Alaafin of Oyo, Bolstering Political Influence
In a strategic move to deepen their political engagement and influence in Oyo State, the socio-political group, Political Royal Sisters, paid a high-profile visit to the revered Alaafin of Oyo, Iku Baba Yeye Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, last Monday, May 26th, 2025, at his palace.
The delegation, led by their President, Hadjia Aliu Mariam Motunrayo, engaged in extensive deliberations with the monarch on various political matters. The discussions, aimed at fostering a stronger relationship between the group and the traditional institution, culminated in a significant development: the Alaafin’s acceptance of the Political Royal Sisters as their Grand Patron. A formal letter requesting his patronage was presented during the visit and duly accepted.
Speaking on the outcome of the visit, President of the group, Hadjia Aliu Mariam Motunrayo expressed delight, stating, “We deliberated extensively on politics, and Iku Baba Yeye promised to be calling us when the need be of who to support during the election.” This commitment from the Alaafin signifies a crucial endorsement, potentially offering the Political Royal Sisters a guiding hand in future political endorsements and strategies within the state.
Further solidifying their ties, the Alaafin’s wife, Olori Abiwumi Owoade also extended her support and acceptance to the group. “Olori has accepted us as one of the group she will identify with anytime she has anything to do both political and social,” the group’s President confirmed. This royal embrace from the Olori is expected to open doors for the group to participate in and contribute to a wider range of political and social initiatives.
With this recent development, the Political Royal Sisters are poised to play a more prominent role in the sociopolitical landscape of Oyo State, leveraging the esteemed influence and counsel of the Alaafin of Oyo.
The group’s leadership structure includes Hadjia Aliu Mariam Motunrayo as President, Alhaja Oseni Salimot Tunrayo as Treasurer, Oluwakemi Roseline Alabi as Secretary, and Owolabi Kudirat as Welfare Officer.
