The Best Brain Initiative for Human Development (BBIHD) marked a significant milestone by honoring and decorating DCN Akomolafe Adekola Ismaila, Area Commander of the Ibarapa/Ido Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State. The ceremony, held at the Area Office in Igbo Ora, celebrated the Area Commander’s exceptional leadership and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to promoting human development and a drug-free society.
During the event, Ojediran Babajide, representing the BBIHD team, outlined the organization’s vision and achievements in advancing a drug-free society. He noted that the initiative has been instrumental in grassroots advocacy, raising awareness, and mobilizing communities to combat drug abuse across Oyo State and beyond.
Ambassador Ojewola Olawale, Executive Director and Lead Campaigner for a Drug-Free Society, delivered a keynote presentation on Project 100: Empowering a Drug-Free Oyo State. The project seeks to empower communities to take ownership of the fight against drug abuse while fostering a culture of peace, productivity, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Ojewola emphasized the importance of reading and intellectual engagement in leadership, describing literacy as a foundation for societal transformation. He highlighted the organization’s literary approach to advocacy, particularly through the book UNCAGED, which explores the dangers of drug abuse and encourages open dialogue and rehabilitation.
Commending Area Commander Akomolafe for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication, Ambassador Ojewola described him as a beacon of hope in the fight against drug abuse. He noted that the Commander’s proactive approach and community engagement have inspired many to join the campaign for a drug-free society.
In his acceptance speech, DCN Akomolafe expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to collaboration with stakeholders, community leaders, and individuals in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. He pledged to continue championing preventive education and rehabilitation efforts, commending the Best Brain Initiative for Human Development for its consistent advocacy and community impact.
The event concluded with the unveiling of a strategic plan for the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Club initiative, which will be launched in 100 schools across Oyo State. The initiative aligns with the National Drug Abuse Control Program introduced by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021, aimed at mobilizing citizens to eliminate illicit drug use nationwide. Ambassador Ojewola announced that the pilot phase would commence in Ibarapa, signaling a major step toward achieving a drug-free Oyo State.
The Best Brain Initiative for Human Development reaffirmed its dedication to promoting human development and a drug-free society. The organization pledged to continue working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the WADA Club initiative and to sustain the vision of a drug-free Nigeria.
