The Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUED), Oyo, was thrown into disarray on Thursday as non-academic staff members joined the nationwide protest organized by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).
The demonstration, part of a coordinated national action, saw workers abandon offices and administrative duties to demand payment of outstanding salaries, earned allowances, and other entitlements allegedly withheld by the Federal Government.
Chanting protest songs and wielding placards, the aggrieved staff accused authorities of neglecting their welfare and failing to honor previous agreements. The protest effectively grounded operations across the campus, leaving academic and support services at a standstill.
The atmosphere on campus remains tense but peaceful, with protesters vowing to sustain the pressure until their demands are met. Union leaders issued a clear threat, failure by the government to respond promptly will trigger an escalation of industrial action.
