CELEBRATING A LIVING LEGEND

CHIEF OLANIPEKUN ONIFADE
The Asiwaju Awo of Oyoland

Religious Leader. Community Pillar. Astute Entrepreneur.

There are men who live in Oyo.
And there are men who make Oyo live.

Chief Olanipekun Onifade, the Asiwaju Awo of Oyoland, belongs to the second group.

If you want to understand Oyo’s new development symphony under His Imperial Majesty, Oba Engr. Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, you must know the instruments — and Chief Onifade is a lead violin.

I. AS A RELIGIOUS LEADER —

The title “Asiwaju Awo” is not chieftaincy for sale. It is not given to a rich man who just wants cap and beads.

It is given to a custodian of culture and tradition.

In Yoruba cosmology, Awo means mystery, wisdom, deep knowledge. The Asiwaju Awo is the leader of all Awo — the one who understands the traditional spiritual architecture of Oyo.

Chief Onifade has worn that crown with dignity:

He does not commercialize tradition; he preserves it.
He does not use religion to divide; he uses it to unite — sitting in same council with the Grand Chief Imam, and the CAN leadership, all under the big umbrella of the Alaafin.
He is present at every joint spiritual function in Oyo — not as a guest, but as a pillar.

At a time when many traditionalists are fighting modernity, Chief Onifade has shown that you can be deeply traditional and deeply progressive.

He is a religious leader who prays for Oyo’s prosperity, not just its rituals.

II. AS A COMMUNITY LEADER — THE HEART OF THE PEOPLE

Go to the market. Go to the mechanic village. Go to the schools. Mention his name.

You will hear: “Baba ti o gbowo lowo.”

Chief Onifade does not do community development on Facebook. He does it on the street.

Scholarships: Quietly paying school fees for children whose parents he does not know.
Mediation: Settling land disputes, family quarrels, youth restiveness without calling police.
Palace Support: One of the first community leaders to pledge total loyalty to the new reign of Alaafin Owoade, donating not just money but his time and wisdom to the coronation and post-coronation committees.

He understands what many miss: Development without community leaders is like a body without blood. You need men who the people trust to carry the King’s message to the grassroots.

That is who Chief Onifade is — the bridge between the Palace and the people.

III. AS AN ASTUTE ENTREPRENEUR — THE WEALTH THAT WORKS

Oyo has many wealthy men. But wealth that does not employ Oyo sons is not wealth — it is decoration.

Chief Olanipekun Onifade’s entrepreneurship is different. It is home-grown, home-rooted, and home-beneficial.

He is not an entrepreneur who takes from Oyo to build in Lagos. He is an entrepreneur who brings from Lagos to build in Oyo.

His businesses employ Oyo indigenes — drivers, managers, artisans.
His success story is a mentorship school for young Oyo entrepreneurs who want to learn that you can be honest and still be successful.
He does not just make money; he makes men. Many small businesses in Oyo today will tell you — “It was Asiwaju Awo who gave me my first contract, my first loan, my first shop.”

He is proof that tradition and commerce can co-exist. That versatility is what Oyo needs now.

THE SYMPHONY CONNECTION

Under Alaafin Owoade, Oyo needs three types of men:

The Prayerful — like the CAN leaders, Grand Chief Imam and the Asiwaju Awo — to hold the spiritual gate.
The Skillful — like the Engineers and Nurses — to hold the professional gate.
The Resourceful — like Chief Onifade — to hold the economic gate.

Chief Olanipekun Onifade holds two gates at once — the spiritual and the economic. That is rare.

OUR PRAYER FOR THE LEGEND

Today, we do not just celebrate a Chief. We celebrate a complete Oyo man.

May your wealth increase.
May your wisdom never dry.
May your lineage be blessed.
May you live long to see the Oyo you are helping to build under Alaafin Owoade become the Oyo of our dreams.

You are not just Asiwaju Awo of Oyoland.
You are Asiwaju Ire of Oyoland — the leader of goodness.

Oyo appreciates you.
The Palace honours you.
The people love you.

— From all of us who believe in the New Oyo Symphony.
